Two hundred years after Maelzel’s metronome patent, this is our take on a “Musical Time-keeper” for the 21st century modular universe.
The ADDAC403 VC TIME SIGNATURE CLOCK SOURCES allows dealing with irrational tempo ratios, evoking Conlon Nancarrow’s ground breaking work while adding the playfulness of the modular combinatorics. The simultaneous use of a swing delay, a divider, rhythm phasing and extended tuplet figures sets a powerful polyrhythmic net of beat oriented triggers.
TEMPO - controls the main clock bpm (1 to 256). The FREE/LOCK switch allows locking the bpm value so that no undesired change takes place. The Tempo CV input features a dedicated Attenuator knob for more precise control.
TIME SIGNATURE BEATS and BARS values can both be varied between 1 and 32. The BARS knob value progresses in powers of two.
A PAUSE button permits to pause and resume the clock.
SWING DELAY - allows delaying 1 clock beat every X beats (1-16). A dynamic DELAY time may be applied. The FREE/SYNC switch determines a delay fraction up to 1/64th (FREE) or 1/16th (SYNC) of the main clock beat duration.
In the DIVIDER section, a LIN/EXP switch allows for dividing the clock in 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 (LIN) or 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64 (EXP) equal durations.
PHASING - inspired by Steve Reich's phasing pieces, the user may set a secondary clock to run OFFSETed from the main one or even at an independent TEMPO (± 16 BPM). When pressed, the RESET button resynchronizes the phasing output with the main clock beat.
TUPLETS generates divisions of the main clock as triplets, quintuplets, septuplets or nonuplets TYPE, inserted with variable LENGTH (1-16 beats) within any X number of bars. In the MONITOR, tuplets can be defined to run in loop or to be triggered in one shot mode and (re)triggered at any beat. A MUTE button allows the user to instantly “silence” the tuplet.
The MONITOR allows to check on the current settings of all controls while it may also be used for saving the current settings and several other operations to be described in more detail soon.
All knobs and push buttons are Voltage Controlled.
8 Trigger outputs: Beats, Bars , Odd Beats, Even Beats, Divider, Swing, Phasing and Tuplets.
